We had a very successful event at Dix Park during Labor Day weekend to celebrate Stu Irving’s 1972 Olympic medal win. We showed the movie Jaws on a large outdoor screen and we invited food trucks. Everyone loved the food from Chicken & Rice Guys, Da Bomb, and The Whoopie Wagon. A stone commemorating Stu Irving’s Olympic Medal was commissioned by BFIS and installed by Roger LeBlanc at the entrance to the hockey court. We dedicated this stone during a community event showcasing our park. We all had a great time, and we plan on holding a movie night again next summer. Our former president, Wendy Drinkwater, was instrumental in the renovation of Dix Park. We have continued her efforts this fall by planting a butterfly garden, spring bulbs, and perennials in Dix Park. Also, during the summer we had lines planted on the hockey court, and the NorthShore Panthers, a woman’s hockey team coached by Stu, donated new nets. We also replaced the basketball nets. We plan on maintaining the trees and shrubs at Dix Park, adding additional plantings, and adding new benches near the basketball court in the Spring.
